D30 Open Arms

Visit Project Open Arms at NYCPS
D30 Open Arms takes its inspiration from Project Open Arms, NYCPS’s citywide initiative that provides coordinated support to immigrant and asylum-seeking families. Project Open Arms helps ensure that newcomers—especially those facing challenges related to ICE, deportation, or sudden relocation—receive assistance with school enrollment, language access, social-emotional services, and clear information about their rights.
Building on that mission, D30 Open Arms will serve as a district-level hub where CEC 30 will share resources from local mutual aid groups, legal service providers, and community organizations that are not affiliated with NYCPS but play a critical role in supporting vulnerable families. Our goal is to offer a comprehensive, welcoming space where caregivers, educators, and community members can find tools, guidance, and avenues for action to stand with immigrant families in District 30.
Below, you will find presentations, training opportunities, and school community resources shared during CEC 30 meetings or provided by partner organizations. This section will be continually updated to ensure families, advocates, and school communities have access to the most current information, support services, and learning opportunities available.

School Community Resources
NYCPS schools can share and display information from Project Open Arms, New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), and the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs to help ensure that families are aware of available supports, student rights information, and pathways to additional assistance. Families who wish to work with Project Open Arms and its authorized external partners are encouraged to provide verbal or written consent to their school leadership, a school counselor, or their child’s teacher. This consent helps the school connect families to coordinated services while ensuring that support is provided in a safe, informed, and student-centered manner.- Walking School Bus Guidance (pdf)
